The University of Mississippi Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Practitioner specializing in Sleep Medicine. This role involves managing and providing patient medical care, promoting health and wellness within the sleep medicine division. The Nurse Practitioner will assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in collaboration with a physician, adhering to UMMC, state, and federal guidelines.

Responsibilities
•Complete initial visits, conducting evidence-based evaluations and providing actionable treatment recommendations, including additional consultations and referrals as needed, seeing on average a minimum of 2 new consults per 4-hour appointment block and following up on several previous consults per day.
•Provide follow-up visits for individuals following their sleep studies, as well as those who are followed by sleep medicine.
•Provide evidence-based patient and family education.
•Participate with the division director in the activities of medical, psychiatric, psychology, and nursing trainees who rotate in sleep medicine.
•Maintain records of diagnosis, treatment and prognosis according to joint commission of accredited hospitals organization standards and complete encounters with accurate procedural codes in a timely manner.
•Participate in departmental quality improvement activities that focus on the processes and work products of the sleep medicine clinic.
•Participate in other activities within the scope of training, experience and privileges as assigned by the chair, department of psychiatry, the division director of sleep medicine.
•Serve as educator and mentor to graduate students and new advance practice registered nurses and function as an expert resource for nursing students in area of specialty.

Requirements
•Graduate of an approved and accredited psychiatric nurse practitioner program
•Holds national certification in mental health practice
•Obtain a DEA certificate within 180 days of employment
•Holds a Mississippi APRN license or eligible for Mississippi APRN license
•Must obtain Nurse Practitioner certification from the Mississippi Board of Nursing prior to hire date
•Knowledge of the current developments, trends and research in the field of sleep medicine
•Knowledge of principles, practices and procedures used in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of common health problems as related to psychiatry
•Knowledge of fundamentals of clinical medicine as related to sleep medicine
•Knowledge of normal and abnormal values of laboratory tests and their clinical significance
•Knowledge of laws and regulations pertinent to the practice of nursing and medicine applicable to psychiatry
