About the position
The Part-Time Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) role at UPMC involves providing psychiatric care to patients, primarily through consultations and follow-ups. This position is part of a collaborative team that focuses on integrating mental health with medical care, ensuring continuity of care, and enhancing patient outcomes. The PMHNP will work approximately 24 hours per week, primarily during weekdays, and will be responsible for establishing relationships with patients and healthcare providers to deliver high-quality care.
Responsibilities
•Provide patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through independent judgment and collaboration with team members.
•Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with physicians and other healthcare providers to achieve desired patient outcomes.
•Demonstrate critical thinking and effective communication in all areas of professional practice.
•Formulate care plans that consider individual patient needs and seek guidance to improve clinical practice.
•Engage in the clinical development of healthcare team members and seek opportunities for learning advanced techniques.
•Identify patient and family educational needs and provide basic education to support care episodes.
•Demonstrate knowledge of research and its impact on practice, participating in quality improvement initiatives.
•Communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team and demonstrate awareness of cultural diversity and workplace safety.
•Accountability for professional development that enhances patient care quality and workplace health.
•Lead by building healthy relationships among colleagues and supporting team initiatives.
Requirements
•Successful completion of an approved psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner program is required.
•Current state RN license and CRNP certification are required.
•Minimum 3 years of experience or completion of a post-graduate residency is preferred.
•BSN, MSN is preferred for CRNP; BS or MS preferred for PA.
•Current CPR certification is required.
•National certification eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania board of nursing.
Nice-to-haves
•Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience is preferred.
•Completion of ACLS or other relevant certifications is preferred.
