The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is part of the clinic team to provide culturally sensitive outpatient psychiatric evaluation and medication management services.
· Provides psychiatric services to adult and youth patients with behavioral health needs;
· Assesses the mental health status of patients through medical history examination, comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and risk factor identification to determine diagnosis and formulate an effective plan of care;
· Utilizes psychotherapy modalities and psychopharmacology to establish a regimen of therapy and prescription medication to improve mental health;
· Prescribes, recommends, or discontinues drugs and treatments;
· Evaluates patient progress, provides support and education to families and communities;
· Orders and interprets laboratory tests and explains the test results to the patient;
· Initiates consultation, collaboration, and referral requests to specialists and other health professionals;
· Practices as part of a care team;
· Counsels patients during appointments, as necessary;
· Provides culturally competent care with respect to culture, tribal, and spiritual beliefs;
· Tracks data for grant funders as required;
· Incorporates new procedures and treatment protocols into practice after appropriate training, evaluation of competence, identification and referral system related to the new procedure, and periodic outcome and competency review; and
· Practices in accordance with the standards of practice as defined by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and/or as outlined by an American professional organization for the specialty.
· Experience in delivering high-quality, client-centered care;
· Ability to assess and diagnose, formulate treatment plans, and provide patient education;
· Ability to interpret and translate research into practice;
· Ability to document and navigate EHR independently;
· Ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary team;
· Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work productively and make independent decisions; and
· Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) required;
· Currently licensed to practice in the state of Montana, or the ability to become licensed;
· Experience working as PMHNP with adult and youth/children preferred;
· Experience working with underserved populations.
Essential job duties may require occasional lifting, pushing and pulling medical or educational supplies and equipment. The ability to occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch and utilize reaching, handling, fingering and feeling movements is required. The ability to hear normal conversational discussion and near and far visual clarity, or equivalent adaptation, is required. The employee may risk exposure to potentially dangerous situations, including exposure to communicable diseases.
