The Human Services Center is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to provide comprehensive psychiatric care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. This full-time position involves direct psychiatric assessments and interventions, primarily within Adolescent Psychiatric Services, with coverage across all age groups. The successful candidate will contribute to a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high-quality patient care and adherence to best practices.

Practice Info

•Primarily assigned to Adolescent Psychiatric Services, with coverage across the age spectrum

•Works as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team

Responsibilities

•Conduct admissions by performing comprehensive psychiatric evaluations

•Develop diagnostic impressions using DSM V criteria

•Document assessments, interventions, and ongoing treatment following best practices and HSC Policies and Procedures

•Complete discharge summaries as required and in compliance with HSC Policies and Procedures

•Identify, conduct, request, and interpret results of special screening and laboratory tests

•Participate on treatment team staffings as necessary

•Perform on-call duties as necessary

•Make daily rounds as required to provide follow-up treatment and assessments

Shift & Schedule

•Full-Time 40 hours weekly position

•Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday with weekend rotation and on-call rotation after hours and holidays

Requirements

•Possess a certificate noting successful completion of a psychiatric nurse practitioner curriculum and examination approved by the South Dakota State Board of Nursing

•Knowledge of acute and chronic behavioral health issues from adolescents through geriatric years

•Knowledge of conducting psychiatric admission evaluations, inpatient treatment, and discharge of patients

•Knowledge of the practices and procedures of providing psychiatric interventions according to best practice guidelines

•Knowledge of DSM V criteria

•Knowledge of use of psychotropic medications to treat acute and chronic behavioral health issues

•Knowledge of comprehensive treatment approach for patients with severe and persistent mental illness

•Ability to perform admission psychiatric evaluations

•Ability to recognize and deal constructively with the needs and concerns of patients and families

•Ability to complete discharge summaries

•Ability to provide patient and family education
