The Psychiatric Nurse Specialist, also known as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), is responsible for conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments, developing treatment plans, prescribing medications, educating patients and families about mental health conditions, managing crises, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care.Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Evaluation & Diagnosis: perform thorough psych evaluation to identify mental health disorders, including taking medical history, psychosocial factors, and previous treatment detailsTreatment Planning: develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs, including medication management, therapy modalities, and support servicesMed Management: prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications, educate patients about potential side effects, and adjust dosages as neededCrisis Intervention: respond to immediate mental health crises, providing stabilization strategies and coordinating necessary emergency carePatient Education: teaching patients and their families about mental health conditions, coping mechanisms, and self-care practices.Collaboration with Team: work closely with Vivia Health psychiatrists, social workers, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic patient care.Documentation: maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records in athenaOne and prepare clinical reports as requiredserve as a resource for clinical decision-making and participate in committee initiatives to improve service delivery.Required QualificationsEducation & Certification:Masterβs degree in Nursing with a specialization in Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nursing or equivalent Nurse Practitioner program.Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing by the American NursesCredentialing Center (ANCC) or equivalent.Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Provider.Experience & SkillsMinimum 2 years' experience in mental health care, patient counseling, or related fields.Competency in managing both acute and chronic psychiatric conditions.Ability and comfort working with seriously mentally illStrong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.Physical & Environmental RequirementsAbility to perform physical examinations and office procedures.Capability to lift up to 100 pounds when necessary.Must be able to stand and move for extended periods.Regular exposure to typical healthcare hazards including infectious diseases and needle pricks.Work ScheduleOnsite work 2-3 days per week: Monday, Tuesday & Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm at our Gage Park Clinic 3306 W 63rd St, Chicago, IL 60629Vivia Health is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered care within our community.
