Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our detox clinical team. In this role, you will provide psychiatric care and medication management for individuals undergoing withdrawal from drugs and alcohol, many of whom present with co-occurring mental health disorders. Responsibilities include conducting psychiatric evaluations, prescribing medications, and collaborating closely with medical and clinical staff to ensure safe, integrated, and effective care during the detoxification process.
Core Functions
•Initial Psychiatric Evaluation & Diagnostic Assessment Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for all newly admitted patients, assessing for co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. Formulate accurate diagnoses and document findings in alignment with DSM-5 criteria.
•Detoxification & Psychiatric Medication Management Prescribe and adjust detox protocols and psychiatric medications based on clinical presentation, withdrawal severity, and co-occurring conditions. Monitor patient response to medications and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
•Clinical Documentation & Medical Orders Complete all required documentation, including evaluation notes, diagnosis codes, treatment plans, and medication orders, in a timely and accurate manner within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
•Care Coordination & Follow-Up Schedule and conduct follow-up visits with patients during their detox stay as needed. Collaborate with the Director of Nursing, Medical Director, and clinical team to ensure continuity of care and appropriate treatment adjustments.
•Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Compliance Communicate effectively with the nursing, clinical, and administrative teams to support integrated, trauma-informed care. Ensure clinical practice aligns with regulatory standards and evidence-based guidelines for detox and psychiatric care.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
•Conduct comprehensive Initial Psychiatric Evaluations (IPEs) for all newly admitted patients.
•Assess, diagnose, and document co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders using DSM-5 criteria.
•Prescribe, manage, and adjust detox protocols and psychiatric medications based on clinical presentation.
•Monitor patients for medication efficacy, side effects, and withdrawal symptoms, adjusting treatment as needed.
•Complete timely and accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), including diagnoses, treatment plans, and progress notes.
•Submit medication and treatment orders clearly and promptly to the nursing team.
•Conduct follow-up visits with patients during their detox stay to evaluate and adjust psychiatric care.
•Collaborate with the Medical Director, Director of Nursing, and Clinical Team to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
•Participate in case reviews, staff meetings, and treatment planning discussions as appropriate.
•Maintain knowledge of and adherence to evidence-based practices and relevant state/federal regulations for psychiatric care in a detox setting.
Qualifications
•Minimum Bachelor's degree from accredited school of nursing in licensed state
•Completion of state accredited Nurse Practitioner program, along with state licensure as APN/NP/DNP/PMHNP
•Prescriptive privileges with Suboxone Waiver; (if applicable)
•Unexpired DEA Certification
•Unexpired PMHNP Certification; (if applicable)
•Unexpired Certificate of Insurance Liability
•Unexpired NPI Registration
•Maintains compliance to state licensure issued and continuing education requirements.
•A minimum of 2 years of hospital-based or outpatient medical practice experience is required.
•CPR Certification; preferred
