Participates in staff conferences and recommends appropriate treatment approaches.
•Assists in developing and organizing a program of clinic treatment.
•Directs case conferences. Serves as a consultant to other clinic staff.
•Confers with patient’s relatives regarding illness and treatment.
•Assists through consultation in establishing psychiatric programs and policies.
•Keeps medical records and prepares psychiatric reports.
•Testifies in judicial proceedings on matters concerning petitions and affidavits.
•Completes other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Required Skills/Abilities:
•Knowledge of general medicine and psychiatry; current developments in the field of psychiatry; hospital and clinic organization, management, and procedures.
•Ability to skillfully diagnose and treat severely and persistently mentally ill patients.
•Ability to analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action.
•Ability to prepare records and reports.
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
•Ability to maintain objectivity and confidentiality.
Education and Experience:
•Completion of a residency training program in psychiatry and two years of post-residency experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in a psychiatric facility required.
•Possession of a valid clinical license required in state of treatment.
•Possession of a valid state driver’s license may be required.
Physical Requirements:
•Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
•May require periods of standing, bending or reaching.
•Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
