The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking compassionate and committed individuals to join our team as a Recreation Manager at the Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center in Omaha. These professionals provide essential oversight and support to male youth. This vital role directly supports our mission of Helping People Live Better Lives.

Plan, organize, assign, and direct the work activities of the recreation team to facilitate recreational goals
•Confer with and counsel staff to exchange information on and/or explain work policies, procedures, and guidelines, to identify the characteristics and impact of work-related problems, and to formulate possible solutions.
•Review and compare work performance and/or products of staff with established standards to determine employee production levels and training needs and to determine for recommendations to agency management appropriate personnel actions such as promotions, disciplinary actions, status changes, separations, and grievance dispositions.
•Train staff in the principles, practices, policies, and procedures of recreation and activity programs to maintain and/or improve production levels in accordance with established work performance standards.
•Develop and implement large muscle recreation and leisure time activities such as; athletics, music, art, movies, swimming, recreational therapy, library and other cultural events; to provide a positive environment; reward good behavior; facilitate physical, educational, and emotional growth; and comply with accreditation standards.
•Select, order, and warehouse materials, equipment, and supplies to effectively and efficiently conduct assigned leisure time activities and large muscle recreation.
•Record and report youth participation in activities to have a written record and comply with reporting requirements.
•Assess youth behavior to recommend assignments and program changes or updates to institutional committees assigned and to program administrators.
•Confer with the staff of outside resources to enlist their assistance in providing leisure time activities, large muscle recreations, and cultural events.
•Organize, monitor, and direct intramural sports and athletic teams to facilitate the physical and mental well-being of the participants.
•Assess needs and interests of youth populations to assist in program planning and budget preparation.
•Draft the budget requests for the recreational department to provide management with the estimated requirements and contribute to the overall budget development.
Work Schedule
The training schedule is generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The work schedule for this full-time position is 5 days per week, 8am -5pm with days off to be determined. This position may also requires weeknights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Wage: Starting pay rate $28.851/hour, increase to $30.294/hour upon successful completion of original probation.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in recreation management, recreation therapy, or a related field and one year of experience providing recreation to others and experience coordinating, directing, leading and assigning work. Other training, education or experience in recreation management, recreation therapy, providing recreation to others, or a related field may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with youth
Work Environment & Expectations
The Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center in Omaha will be opening in mid-late 2026. This program was established to provide services to male youth and offers evidence-based cognitive behavioral, skill-building and substance abuse programming, including:
•Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT)
•Aggression Replacement Training (ART)
•Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA)
•Lion Heart's Power Source Program
•Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
•Additional groups include youth feedback and team building.
•Individual therapy is also offered to youth with behavioral, mental health, and substance abuse needs. Therapists use an integrated care model to address co-occurring issues.
•Youth who have the need will receive management for psychotropic medications through a contracted Adolescent Psychiatrist or a Psychiatric APRN.
•Case Managers and therapists work together to develop case plans with outcomes determined by each youth's risks and needs. Other assessments are used to determine treatment needs.
•Youth can earn incentives and privileges based on positive behavior. Incentives can include group outings, special treats, or other fun on-campus or off-campus activities.
•Youth may also participate in community service projects, based on positive behaviors, and earned privileges.
