The Inpatient Psychiatry Nurse Manager demonstrates leadership and mastery of practice in delivering efficient, comprehensive, and continuous patient-driven holistic care through active collaboration, communication, and coordination of resources. Ensures subordinate personnel provide timely nursing care that complies with generally accepted standards of clinical practice, accreditation, and regulatory standards. Responsible for sound fiscal and human resource management, effective management of administrative and clinical issues, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, and employee relations. Establishes priorities for unit-based quality/performance improvement activities, while promoting evidence-based practices. Evaluates, redesigns, and implements unit-based/facility-wide/health service policies and protocols as applicable. Actively develops and manages collaborative partnerships with physicians and other members of the multi-disciplinary team as a means of providing high-quality, cost-effective, and customer-focused health care. Coaches staff effectively manages employee conduct and performance issues. Participates in service and medical center committees and task forces to improve nursing standards of practice and patient care. Identifies educational needs for staff and ensures these needs are aptly addressed. Supports and facilitates student nurse clinical experiences and orients new Nurse Managers. Cross-covers for other nurse managers and/or supervisors as designated when needed. Responsible for the Inpatient Psychiatry nursing staff of his/her designated unit(s)/clinic(s) and collaborates with other nurse managers to identify and share resources. Maintains and provides continuous accreditation readiness of his/her units. Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. Influences outcomes of care by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes. Adheres to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels. Equips staff with tools for competent care and promotes an environment of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.. Contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design.. Maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, directives, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOP). Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to professional development. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and partners with others to effect change and improve outcomes. Evaluates and measures outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations.
