This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Teaching and counseling individuals, families, and groups are major parts of the APN's activities. APNs work autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage clients' health care problems; and serve as a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate. Nurse Practitioner (NP): An advanced practice registered nurse (APN) who has prescriptive authority and provides care for a identified patient panel in collaboration with a physician. Core functions include diagnosing and treating acute and chronic health care problems, performing adult care check-ups, and prescribing medication and treatments. Diagnoses and manages minor trauma including suturing. The incumbent teaches health promotion and disease prevention to patients. Identifies individuals, families, and/or communities at risk in order to promote wellness and prevent disease and/or injury/disability. Utilizes standards of care and practice in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient care outcomes. Demonstrates functional expertise and technical literacy in order to initiate changes within the Treatment Team, which result in improved care and treatment while maintaining standards of care and practice. Actively engages in clinical pertinence reviews, peer reviews, and performance measure assessments. Utilizes systems thinking to identify and collaborate with center/network level staff in the resolution of integrated delivery system issues, which influence the provision of patient care. Directs care or manages systems of care for complex client/family and/or community population to ensure the continuum of care and to meet network performance measures. Submits a self-evaluation, at least yearly, to supervisor. Acquires and uses current and new knowledge in all aspects of the position in order to impact on the mission and changing practice needs of the patient population. Maintains personal mastery and knowledge of current practice and professional issues by regularly attending conferences, education sessions, and scientific meetings to maintain licensure and specialty certification(s).
