The Advanced Practice Nurse, Certified Nurse Practitioner practices in Hematology and Medical Oncology Service to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs mission. The Nurse Practitioner provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management. The NP practices to the full extent of their education, training, and certification.
Duties include but not limited to: Independently manages Hematology and Oncology patients with acute and chronic conditions. Emphasizes health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice. Develops and implements individualized care plans. Demonstrates leadership in interdisciplinary team collaboration. Orders and interprets laboratory tests and diagnostic studies. Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions. Monitors and manages treatment side effects and complications. Initiates referrals and consultations to specialty services. Provides education to patients and families. Assesses and adjusts treatment plans for optimal outcomes. Develops and follows Survivorship plans. Practices to the full extent of education, training, and certification. Executes medical regimens including administering medications. Role models professional and ethical conduct. Leads interdisciplinary teams. Educates and mentors colleagues and students. Assumes accountability for professional career development. Promotes cooperation and teamwork. Initiates and leads change to improve outcomes. Collaborates with stakeholders to enhance patient care. Participates in interdisciplinary workgroups. Engages in evidence-based practice. Implements quality improvement initiatives. Leads changes to enhance care quality. Performs comprehensive assessments. Develops individualized treatment plans. Demonstrates critical thinking in complex situations. Ensures continuity of care. Participates in program development and planning. Supports medical center missions. Treats customers respectfully. Maintains national board certification. Handles purchase responsibilities ethically. Adheres to purchase card program regulations. Strong knowledge of chemotherapy and biological agents, including prescribing. Ability to maintain treatment-related side effects and complications. Note* Enrollment/completion of ASCO Advanced Practice Provider program within 2 years. Completion of an Advanced Practice Provider Oncology Certification Exam within 3 years.
