This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), student loan payment reimbursement program. Specific eligibility must be met requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
Clinical assessment of patients presenting to the Outpatient Neurology Clinic including General Neurology & subspecialty clinics such as Movement Disorders, Neuromuscular Disorder, Memory Disorders & headache. This includes obtaining accurate and appropriate medical histories, performing and recording limited and complete physical examinations, establishing presumptive diagnosis, presenting meaningful data to the supervising physician or his designee, and providing adequate documentation of patient care in the electronic medical record. Assist with development and management of other members of the Multidisciplinary Neurodegenerative Disorders Management Team, specifically coordinating care with the RN clinical coordinator and a specialty social worker. Participate in special procedures such as greater occipital nerve blocks for headache botulinum toxin injection for focal dystonia & deep brain, deep brain stimulator (DBS) program Assist clinical staff with development and management of Neurodegenerative Diseases Infusion Center, including establishing and following proper protocols for medications administered via infusion. Provide patient, family and community education and counseling in preventive care, medical conditions, and the use of prescribed treatments and drugs. Be familiar with neurology clinics and protocols. Render assistance to other BVAMC neurology clinical teams and neurology house staff promote the efficient functioning of the Outpatient Clinic(s) to which he/she is assigned. The priority of assignments will be based on need and staff-to-patient ratios and is subject to review and revision by the Chief or Deputy Chief Neurology. Perform special procedures such as venipuncture when personnel who customarily perform such procedures are not available. Execute position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care Use organizational processes and/or systems to improve outcomes at the program or service level. Provide leadership in identifying and addressing ethical issues that impact clients and staff, includes initiating and participating in ethics consultations. Manage program resources (financial, human, material, or informational) to facilitate safe, effective, and efficient care. Implement an educational plan to meet changing program or service needs for self and others. Maintain knowledge of current techniques, trends, and professional issues. Educate colleagues and/or students and serves as a preceptor and/or mentor. Coach colleagues in team building. Makes sustained contributions to health care by sharing expertise within and/or outside the medical facility. Collaborate with others in research activities to improve care. Identify and prescribe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological agents. Direct and advise on the processes to review, triage, and complete outpatient clinic consults and assigned electronic consults (E-consults). Lead in performing and delegating indirect patient care tasks such as: returning telephone calls, responding to patient emails, reviewing clinical data, communicating results to patients, and communicating with primary care providers and other referring specialists, as appropriate. Preferred Experience: 2-3 years of full time Neurology and/or Medicine Specialty experience 1. Experience with coordinating a multidisciplinary clinic for focused care of complex neurological disorders such as ALS and Multiple sclerosis. 2.
