The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment within a Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). This role focuses on rapid assessment, short‑term intervention, crisis management, and coordination of care for individuals experiencing acute psychiatric distress. The PMHNP collaborates closely with an interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, patient‑centered, trauma‑informed care.
Job Responsibilities: Conduct psychiatric evaluations, mental status examinations, and risk assessments (suicide, violence, substance withdrawal, etc.).
Develop and implement crisis stabilization treatment plans tailored to the patient’s immediate needs.
Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, including initiation, titration, and monitoring for effectiveness and side effects.
Perform crisis intervention and de-escalation using trauma‑informed approaches.
Order and interpret laboratory tests, screenings, and other diagnostics as clinically indicated.
Provide short‑term therapy, psychoeducation, and supportive counseling.
