What we're looking for in a Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
To thrive as a Full-Time Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) at Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, a diverse set of skills and qualifications is essential. You must be adept at evaluating, diagnosing, and counseling patients with mental, behavioral, or emotional disorders, utilizing effective medication management and follow-up visits. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) for documenting patient conditions is crucial, along with experience in crisis response and treatment planning. A strong ability to collaborate with other healthcare providers, both in-person and via Tele Behavioral Health, is vital for ensuring comprehensive patient care. Candidates should hold a Medical Degree with an active psychiatry license or a Master's/Ph.D.
in Nursing with a focus on psychiatry and an active Nurse Practitioner license in Nevada. Cultural competency in working with Native American communities is essential, alongside a commitment to organizational skills and the ability to operate effectively within a diverse environment.
Evaluate, diagnose, counsel and perform assessment and treatment to patients presenting with mental behavioral or emotional disorders through medication management and follow up visits for patient care who are scheduled by the clinic staff
Consult with appropriate providers and other staff members on-site or via Tele behavioral health;
The psychiatrist/psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner shall provide psychotropic medication management and differential psychiatric diagnosis as an independent medical provider on-site or Tele behavioral Health. All services will be provided with respect for cultural and social values of Native American patients whom we serve;
Carry out treatment and respond to crises, administer medications and observe and documents patient conditions in electronic health record (EHR)
Any identified medical needs will be referred to other RSTHC Clinic medical staff; Case management review and peer review of mental health services will be provided as time constraints allow
Provide guidance and counseling to patients and/or families regarding treatment plan and approach
Hours of duty will not include travel time to reach or return from the duty place of performance but will be limited to actual performance of adult psychiatry services;
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Medical Degree and a current license to practice Psychiatry in the State of Nevada or graduation with a Master’s Degree or Ph.D. from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a focus in psychiatry, must possess an active Nurse Practitioner (APRN) and Nursing license to practice in the State of Nevada.
Demonstrates ability to plan organize and carry out patient care activities in a clinical setting on-site or via Tele behavioral Health/Telemedicine;
Must submit annual TB screening;
Must be able to work in a diverse minority environment;
Must have a current CPR certification or obtain one within 6 months.
