This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
The Physician's clinical and administrative (education) duties include but are not limited to: Clinical Duties: Provides clinical input and oversight for patients' treatment plans. Being readily available to the team members for collaboration when medical or other problems arise. Assure that care is provided in a manner, which is in accordance with accepted practices and is evidenced based. Assure that care is provided in a timely manner and in an appropriate setting. Assure appropriate oversight of delegated care activities of Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Pharm D's and others practicing with a "scope of practice". Completes documentation of patient's visit with appropriate encounters in CPRS in a timely manner. Facilitate appropriate consultation and implementation of consultant recommendations. Address issues related to infection control including skin testing, immunization and infection prevention. The Practitioner will provide cross coverage to the different clinical GEC services within the approved .and recommended privileges by the Professional Standards Board. The Practitioner is expected to remain privileged and practicing in his//her specialty field. The Professional Standards Board will approve the exact privileges and procedures for a particular provider. Education: Practitioners are expected to help the Medical Directors carry out Education activities related to UME/GME. He/she ensures orientation to service rotation for program trainees (residents, students), if any. Practitioners are expected to show effectiveness in teaching, monitor and coordinate educational activities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision. Practitioners are expected to be the single program director with authority and accountability of the operation of the Geriatric Fellowship program. The qualifications of the program director must include at the minimum: Administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating the fellows in each of the ACGME competency areas. Prepare and submit all information required and requested by the ACGME; be familiar and oversee compliance with ACGME and Review Committee policies and procedures as out lined in the ACGME Manual of Policies and Procedures. Be responsible for monitoring fellow stress, including mental and emotional conditions inhibiting performance or learning, and drug-or alcohol-related dysfunction. Participate in academic societies and in educational programs designed to enhancehis or her educational and administrative skills. Implement a program of continuous quality improvement in medical education for the faculty, especially as it pertains to the teaching and evaluation of the ACGME Competencies Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment) Authorized: Learn more. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. [If the applicant does not claim an ECFMG certificate, facility officials must still confirm that the medical school meets (or met) ECFMG eligibility requirements for the year the candidate graduated.] NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
