Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our multidisciplinary mental health team. Duties
•Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments, including patient history, mental status examinations, and diagnostic evaluations utilizing advanced EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems such as Epic or eClinicalWorks.
•Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating psychopharmacology, therapy options, and behavioral health strategies aligned with best practices and current clinical research.
•Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications, including those requiring specialized knowledge such as psychotropic agents for mood disorders, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health conditions.
•Provide patient-centered counseling, psychoeducation, and support for individuals across the lifespan—children, adolescents, adults, seniors—with conditions like dementia care or Alzheimer's disease.
•Collaborate with primary care providers, specialists (e.g., neurologists for neuropsychiatric cases), and case managers to coordinate holistic care plans that include discharge planning and post-acute care strategies.
•Participate in telehealth initiatives to expand access to mental health services utilizing telemedicine platforms with experience in telehealth systems.
•Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain accurate medical documentation of patient encounters, medication administration, and treatment outcomes.
•Engage in quality improvement activities such as utilization review and adherence to NCQA standards to optimize patient care delivery.
•Assist in triage during urgent mental health crises by evaluating risk levels and coordinating emergency interventions within hospital or outpatient settings.
•Support clinical research projects related to behavioral health or psychopharmacology to advance evidence-based practices in psychiatric nursing.
Skills
•Proven experience working with diverse populations including children (pediatrics), seniors (geriatrics), individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia care needs.
•Strong knowledge of psychiatric medications including CPT coding for billing purposes; familiarity with ICD-10/ICD-9 coding systems for diagnostic documentation.
•Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks; experience with medical imaging or laboratory data integration is a plus.
•Skilled in patient assessment techniques including vital signs measurement, mental status exams, and physiology knowledge relevant to neuropsychiatric conditions.
•Ability to perform procedures such as venipuncture for lab testing or specimen collection; experience with IV infusion therapy is advantageous.
•Familiarity with acute pain management protocols and airway management techniques for emergency situations involving behavioral crises or trauma patients.
•Experience administering injections (e.g., IM psychotropic medications), suturing skills are desirable but not required.
•Knowledge of infection control practices within clinical environments including sterile processing when applicable.
•Excellent communication skills for teaching hospital environments or outpatient clinics; ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams including case management and nursing staff.
•Competence in utilizing telehealth platforms for remote patient consultations; understanding of HIPAA compliance standards is essential.
•Background in hospital medicine settings such as Level I Trauma Centers or Level II Trauma Centers enhances ability to manage complex cases involving acute care or ICU experience.
•Familiarity with behavioral health interventions like trauma-informed care, crisis intervention techniques, and working with people experiencing acute episodes of mental illness.
