UVA Health seeks a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join the Virtual Care Clinic as an integrated member of the virtual primary care team.
This is a fast-paced psychiatric care role focused on rapid access and bridging the gap in psychiatric services for patients across Virginia who lack an established primary care or behavioral health provider. The Psychiatric NP provides comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and medication management as a core member of the virtual care team, with the potential to serve as a psychiatric consultant for Collaborative Care Model (CoCM) programs at UVA Health primary care sites. Full-time position; autonomous licensure and 2–3 years of Psychiatric NP experience required.
About This Position
This position is based in the Virtual Care Clinic, a new UVA Health initiative providing rapid-access primary care to patients across Virginia who do not have an established primary care provider. The clinic is staffed by a team of Primary Care APPs rotating to provide seven-day coverage, alongside a Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) who provides integrated psychotherapy services. The Psychiatric NP functions as an integrated member of this team, providing same-day and scheduled virtual psychiatric care for patients ages 5 and older, with primary referrals generated by VCC primary care APPs and other UVA Health providers.
About University of Virginia
University of Virginia is hiring for this PMHNP position. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners play a critical role in addressing the growing demand for mental health services across the United States. This employer is actively seeking qualified candidates to join their team.
The VCC model prioritizes rapid access, population health impact, and team-based care. Success requires comfort with consultation-focused psychiatric care and brief episodes of care, close collaboration with primary care providers, and alignment with an integrated care approach. As the VCC and UPG behavioral health programs grow, this role may expand to include a formal psychiatric consultation function within Collaborative Care programs at primary care sites that do not have a Psych APP on-site, providing a pathway to scale psychiatric expertise across the UVA Health network.
