JOB SUMMARY
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) or Certified Psychiatric Physician Assistant (PA) provides behavioral health evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and medication management services within Proactive MD employer-sponsored health centers. This role functions as part of an integrated care model focused on improving access to behavioral healthcare while supporting the physical, emotional, and psychosocial well-being of patients.
The provider collaborates closely with psychiatrists, therapists, primary care providers, patient advocates, and interdisciplinary care teams to deliver evidence-based behavioral healthcare in a patient-centered outpatient environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform psychiatric and behavioral health assessments
Diagnose and manage common behavioral health conditions
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications in accordance with state regulations and scope of practice

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
PMHNP Candidates - Required Qualifications
Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program
Completion of an accredited Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner training program
Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Board Certified (PMHNP-BC)
Successful completion of national board certification examination through the American Nurses Credentialing Center
Active unrestricted APRN license in applicable state(s)
DEA registration and controlled substance prescribing authority as applicable
PMHNP Candidates - Preferred Qualifications
Experience in outpatient psychiatry, integrated behavioral health, collaborative care, or primary care behavioral health
Minimum of 2 years psychiatric or behavioral health experience
PA Candidates - Required Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
NCCPA certification
Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Psychiatry
Active unrestricted PA license in applicable state(s)
DEA registration and controlled substance prescribing authority as applicable
PA Candidates - Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years psychiatric or behavioral health experience
Experience in outpatient psychiatry, integrated behavioral health, collaborative care, or primary care behavioral health
Preferred Qualifications (PMHNP & PA candidates)
Experience with employer-sponsored healthcare, population health, or value-based care models
Experience with telehealth behavioral health services
